The Wildcats headed to Marshall, Missouri on Sunday for a KCAC matchup with Missouri Valley College.
The Vikings jumped out to a quick 3-0 led in the opening three minutes of the game. Kyra Gangemi (Elkton, Md.) had the first chance for the Wildcats in the fourth minute but her free position attempt was saved by MoVal's April Hennen. Maleeya Thompson (Collingswood, N.J.) had her attempt go wide in the 10th minute as the 'Cats continued to look to get on the board.
Gangemi put the Wildcats first point on the board with 7:02 to play in the first half, scoring on a free position attempt as the 'Cats trailed 1-6. Thompson added a second goal for Johnson & Wales just before the half as the Vikings took a 9-2 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Vikings continued their offensive output while the Wildcats couldn't get their rhythm going. Madison Herbert (Berthoud, Colo.) came up with big saves down the stretch to limit the Vikings socring run. The 'Cats weren't able to add to their total and fell 2-18.
Gangemi led Johnson & Wales with two shots on goal and five ground balls. Thompson had two shots and two ground balls for the 'Cats. Herbert had 15 saves for the Wildcats.
Johnson & Wales will return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday afternoon when they host the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at 3pm.
