Women's lacrosse falls to Whitman

SALEM, Oregon – The Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team played the second game of a four-game, seven-day road trip on Tuesday, falling 23-1 to Whitman College at Sparks Field.

Junior Ashley Guerrero scored for the second straight game for the Wildcats' lone goal, unassisted at the 22:48 mark of the second half.   

The Blues (1-0) were in total control of their season opener, out-shooting the Wildcats (0-2) 32-1 in the first half for a 12-0 lead. The Blues made it 13-0 before Guerrero broke the ice.

Hannah Miller, Nina Moore, and Sage Ali scored four goals apiece to lead Whitman, which finished with a 52-4 shot advantage.

Guerrero finished the game with 3 shots, 2 ground balls and 4 defensive clears. Brigid McCollam started in goal for JWU and made nine saves in just over 35 minutes of play. Trent Flanagan played the final 14-plus minutes and recorded four saves.

The Wildcats continue their road trip Thursday at Whitworth.
