DENVER – Five members of the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team were recognized on the SCAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference team, the league announced Tuesday.
Junior attacker Ashley Guerrero (Downey, CA) along with freshmen defenders Sirena Borja (San Diego, CA) and Julianna Lozada (Poway, CA) were named to the first team while freshman goalie Brigid McCollam (New Fairfield, CT) and freshman attacker Madisyn Tulenchik (Victoria, MN) received honorable mention.
Guerrero led the Wildcats in draw controls (39) and shots on goal (44) and was second on the team in goals (25) and assists (5). Guerrero scored a season-high six goals to lead JWU Denver to its first win in program history on Feb. 28 over Whitworth University. She also scored six times against SCAC foe Dallas and had four-goal games versus Elmhurst and Saint Mary.
Lozada started all 15 games for JWU Denver and set a single-season program record for ground balls (45) and forced turnovers (26). Lozada ranked third in the SCAC with 3.00 ground balls per game and third with 1.71 caused turnovers a contest.
Borja also started all 15 games for the Wildcats and finished with 22 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, two draw controls and two assists.
Tulenchik matched Guerrero for the team lead with 30 points and led the Wildcats with a season-season record 28 goals. Her 1.93 goals per game ranked 10th in the SCAC while her 0.43 free position goals per contest were fourth-best in the league.
McCollam set a team record for goals against average (15.61) and ranked third in the conference in both save percentage (.440) and saves per game (9.71).
