DENVER - The Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team dropped its 2020 season opener Sunday, 14-5, to visiting New England College at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

JWU Denver sophomore Julianna Lozada scored in the first minute on an assist by Ashley Guerrero to give the Wildcats an early lead. The game remained close throughout the first half before the Pilgrims were able to pull away for the non-conference victory in the second half.

Freshman Jillien Gerace scored twice to pace the JWU attack while the Wildcats also got goals from freshman Alexus Thompson and sophomore Jochelyn Suglio. Thompson also had an assist while Lozada led the team with seven ground balls.

Sophomore Brigid McCollam made 13 saves in net for the hosts. Meghan Oliver had five goals and put eight shots on goal for New England, who out-shot JWU 43-25.

The Wildcats head out on the road for a pair of contests this week, Tuesday at Oglethorpe and Wednesday at Brevard.
