Wildcats fall at Hope International

The Wildcats hit the West Coast on Friday for the first of two matches in the Golden State, taking on Hope International University.

Victoria Diaz (San Dimas, Calif.) made the save on the first shot she saw in the third minute. The host Royals got on the board first a minute later as the ball found its way to the foot of Jazzmyn Esquivel after a scrum in the box. Diaz made another save in the 8th minute as HIU continued to press. Jordan Lairamore (Lakewood, Colo.) headed a shot wide of goal in the 12th minute as JWU started to find some offensive opportunities.

In the 15th minute the Royals found their second goal of the game after Amanda George bent an attempt from the corner kick around Diaz. Asianna Harris (Las Vegas, Nev.) put a shot on frame in the 23rd minute, but HIU's Jacqueline Talley made the stop to keep JWU off the board.

Emily Schmuckler (Prescott, Ariz.) had a shot on goal just before halftime, but Talley made the stop as the Royals took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Royals went up 3-0 in the 57th minute, forcing JWU to rework their offensive plan. Kassidy McKevitt (Fort Collins, Colo.) had two shots on goal saved in the 65th and 68th minutes. The HIU defense came up with a defensive block on an attempt by Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) .

Rebecca Brock (Amarillo, Texas) put one more shot on frame in the 82nd minute but Casey Pulido made the save to preserve the shutout for the Royals.

McKevitt had a team high two shots on goal for Johnson & Wales and Diaz made seven saves.

Johnson & Wales will take on Marymount College on Sunday at 1:00 PM Pacific time.
