Wildcats fall to Arizona Christian

The Wildcats headed to Arizona for the first of two matches in the Grand Canyon State. The 'Cats opened the weekend with a match at Arizona Christian University.

The Firestorm had a couple shots early as they controlled the offense to start the match. ACU got on the board in the 7th minute as Marisa Ortiz took a ball crossed through the box and finished it. The Firestorm continued to push the offense but their shots went wide of frame.

Emily Smith (Westminster, Colo.) had the first shot on target for Johnson & Wales in the 21st minute but ACU's Serenity Masterson made the save. The Firestorm added a second goal in the 27th minute to take the 2-0 lead.

ACU held the 2-0 advantage through the first 45 minutes of play. In the second half, Kassidy McKevitt (Fort Collins, Colo.) put a shot on target in the 52nd minute but Masterson again made the stop. The Wildcats continued to look for their first goal of the contest but their shots were just wide of frame. A late attempt by Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) was saved in the 81st minute to keep the 'Cats scoreless. Victoria Diaz (San Dimas, Calif.) had another save in the 85th minute for Johnson & Wales.

Diaz made two saves for JWU and the Wildcats had three shots on goal in the contest. Johnson & Wales will take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Saturday at 8:00pm MT.
