The Wildcats closed up their regular season home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a Homecoming weekend contest against Morningside College.
Prior to the match, Johnson & Wales recognized their four graduating seniors with Emily Schmuckler (Prescott, Ariz.), Amanda Thoe (Montrose, Colo.), Elizabeth Felix (Fontana, Calif.) and Halle Hodgson (Westminster, Colo.) being honored before the opening whistle.
The visiting Mustangs put the first shot on target of the match but Victoria Diaz (San Dimas, Calif.) made the stop. In the 5th minute, Thoe had the first shot on goal for JWU but Morningside's Niccole McGuire made the stop. In the 8th minute, Hodgson sent a corner kick in that Savanah Heinz (Aguanga, Calif.) sent across the box and Emily Smith (Westminster, Colo.) finished it to the keeper's open left side for the 1-0 lead.
Diaz made a save in the 28th minute to keep the clean sheet going. At the other end of the field, Arianna Flores (Goodyear, Ariz.) tried to give the 'Cats a 2-0 lead but Morningside's Jacklyn Obermeier made the save. The Mustangs got on the board just before halftime as Clarice Bialas finished a long throw-in to tie the match 1-1.
The Mustangs added a second goal just as the second half got underway as Amy Grause took a throughball and put it past Diaz in the 49th minute. Neither team had many more shots through the rest of the game as Felix sent a shot wide of frame in the 65th minute.
Morningside College held off the Wildcats over the final 25 minutes to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
The Wildcats will wrap up their regular season next Saturday when they travel to Central Christian College.
