The Wildcats hosted Tabor College on Friday afternoon at Aurora Sports Park in JWU's seventh home contest of the season.
The 'Cats got on the board early with a goal in the third minute by Rebecca Brock (Amarillo, Texas). Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) sent a pass up the left side of the field to the feet of Brock who continued her drive and shot from 10 yards out to put JWU up 1-0. Brock nearly doubled the lead two minutes later but Tabor's Ruby-Anne Fines made the stop. Katelyn Peters (Brighton, Colo.) made her first save of the game in the 11th minute, stopping an attempt by Tabor's Keely Antonio.
In the 30th minute, the Wildcats added a second goal as Kelsie Treloar (Conifer, Colo.) saw the ball fall to her feet off a failed clear by the Bluejays and put it back on goal from six yards out. Molly Sharples (Henderson, Nev.) almost found the back of the net off a free kick attempt in the 43rd minute but Tabor's Fines got a hand on the ball to punch it out. The Bluejays put a goal on the scoreboard just before halftime as Dakota Spencer drove up the wing and shot to the upper right corner of the goal from seven yards away. Johnson & Wales took the 2-1 lead into the break.
Peters opened the second half with a save in the 50th minute as the Bluejays looked to find the equalizer. The two teams traded possession throughout the second half with neither side getting much of a chance. Jordan Lairamore (Lakewood, Colo.) broke up the back and forth play as Brock passed a ball back into the midfield where Lairamore powered it into the upper right corner from 15 yards out. Brock had another shot saved in the closing seconds as the Wildcat's took the 3-1 victory.
Brock led the Wildcats with four shots on goal and had two assists for JWU. Peters had two saves in the win.
