The Wildcats headed to Southwestern University on Friday night to face off against the Pirates in Texas.
The hosts set the tone early with Lauren Lee putting SU up 1-0 15 seconds into the match. The Pirates continued to pressure the Wildcat's defense with Katelyn Peters (Brighton, Colo.) getting the stop on an attempt in the second minute. SU peppered Johnson & Wales with attempts but were off target until the 9th minute with Hallie Rutherford added a second. Lee put SU up 3-0 in the 13th as Southwestern asserted themselves in the game. The Pirates took a 4-0 lead into the break.
In the second, Natasha Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) looked to get one back for the Wildcats just after the restart but SU's Mary Cardone made the save. Samantha Roybal (Littleton, Colo.) saw her attempt saved a few second later and Rebecca Brock (Amarillo, Texas) put another shot on target a few minutes after that. The Wildcats couldn't break through as Southwestern grabbed the 6-0 victory.
Peters had eight saves for Johnson & Wales and Martin led the squad with four shots.
Johnson & Wales (6-5-0, 5-4-0 SCAC) will face off against Texas Lutheran University (5-5-1, 4-4-0 SCAC) on Sunday at 2:00pm MT.
