Wildcats tripped up by Celts

Denver – The Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team couldn't generate enough offense in a 2-0 loss to visiting St. Thomas on Friday at Aurora Sports Park.

The tilt was between the two newest members of the SCAC but did not count as a conference matchup.

After a scoreless first half, the visiting Celts (1-3-1) opened the scoring in the 66th minute when Katarina Maksimov put a ball into the net off an assist from Aeriana Lewis.

The Celts' Rachel Bejarano added to the lead 15 minutes later to double the margin.

JWU Denver senior goalkeeper Katelyn Peters made eight saves against a Celts attack that out-shot the Wildcats (2-3-0) 13-5.

JWU senior forward Rebecca Brock recorded both of the Wildcats' shots on target with each attempt coming in the first half. The Wildcats were unable to test Celts' keeper Jordan Thompson in the final 45 minutes.

The Wildcats return to ASP against another SCAC foe Sunday against Centenary in another non-conference matchup.
