The Wildcats began their 2017 season on Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight Open.
In the women's 60 meter run, Brandi Williams-Beck (San Antonio, Texas) and Ashley Jackson (Denver, Colo.) just missed out on qualifying for the finals with finishes of 8.21 and 8.22 for 9th and 10th respectively. Catherine Carbeck (Phoenix, Ariz.) ran 8.37 and Kelci Freeman (Ramona, Calif.) crossed at 8.72. In the 200 meter, Williams-Beck finished fourth overall with a time of 27.38 while Carbeck finished in 14th at 28.72. Jackson followed with a time of 29.05 and Freeman had a time of 30.91.
Samantha Barela (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished the 3,000 meter in fifth place with a time of 11:35.89. In the 4x400 relay, Johnson & Wales finished in third place with a time of 4:18.10.
On the field side, Katie Malachinski (Stevensville, Mont.) cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump to finish seventh overall.
The Wildcats will compete at the CU Invitational on February 4 in Boulder.
