'Cats fall in Friday action

The Wildcats headed north to Billings, Montana for a pair of matches on the campus of Rocky Mountain College.

The first match of the day saw Johnson & Wales take on the University of Great Falls. In the opening set, the Argonauts broke up an 8-8 tie to go up 11-8 on JWU. UGF held off a late push by the Wildcats to take the 25-19 win in the opening set. The second set had JWU trail early as UGF jumped out to an early 12-4 lead. The Wildcats staged a rally to tie the set 19-19 but UGF held them off for the 25-22 win.

After going up 11-10 on Johnson & Wales, the Argonauts added a three point run to lead 14-10. Another late push by UGF game them what they needed to take the 25-17 win.

Kelley McLain (Simi Valley, Calif.) led Johnson & Wales with eight kills in the opening match and Sierra Joyner (Oxnard, Calif.) had 14 digs.

In the second match, the 'Cats took on host Rocky Mountain College. The Wildcats had a great start to the opening set, leading 15-12. The Battlin' Bears rallied to tie the set 16-16. The two sides closed out the set trading points with RMC taking the 25-23 win.

In the second set, JWU began with a 4-1 lead before the Bears came back to lead 6-4. The momentum was in RMC's favor as the surged ahead for the 25-16 win. In the third set, JWU fell behind 3-7 but rallied to tie the set 10-10. A five point run by Rocky Mountain put them ahead 17-11 and the Bears were able to take the 25-16 win.

Erin Sosnowchik (Omaha, Neb.) had a team high eight kills for Johnson & Wales and Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 18 assists.

JWU will take on #17 Carroll College on Saturday at 4pm MT followed by another match against host Rocky Mountain College at 7pm MT.
