On Friday, the Wildcats continued as hosts of the 2017 Wildcat Invitational as they took on Montana State University - Northern and Mayville State University.
In the first match of the day, the 'Cats came out strong against the Skylights in the opening set, hitting .241 with 11 kills. The Wildcats pushed hard but came up short in the 20-25 loss in the first set. In the second set the Wildcats struggled in their attack as they recorded 11 attacking errors, falling 17-25. The third set saw Montana State - Northern control the tempo as the Skylights hit .417 in the contest. They notched 12 kills while holding the Wildcats to just five. The Skylights took the final set 25-10 and sweeping the match.
In the second match, the Wildcats took on Mayville State University. The visiting Comets broke up a back and forth start to the first set to begin to pull away midway through the opening set. Mayville State broke away to take the first set 25-17. In the second set, the Comets jumped out to an 8-3 lead to control the set early. The Wildcats chipped away but couldn't overcome the difference, falling 17-25. The third set saw the 'Cats battle through the opening points but the Comets again found the momentum and pulled away on a 10-1 run to put the set away in a 25-10 victory.
Keeney led the Wildcats with 11 kills and collected nine digs. Paxton had a game high 15 digs for Johnson & Wales.
The Wildcats will take on Wayland Baptist University on Saturday at 11:30am to wrap up the weekend.
