Wildcats fall in Arizona

The Wildcats hit the road for the first time this season as they headed to Prescott, Arizona for the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Invitational.

In their first match of the weekend, the 'Cats took on Arizona Christian University. The Firestorm weren't overly productive in the first set with just eight kills but their defense forced the Wildcats into committing 11 errors on their way to the 25-14 win. In the second set the Wildcats struggled with their offense, putting together just six kills but notched 10 attack errors in the set. The Firestorm took the second set 25-12. The third set looked stronger for Johnson & Wales as they improved their attacking percentage while forcing the Firestorm into seven attack errors. ACU took the final set 25-19.

Erynn Keeney (Thornton, Colo.) led Johnson & Wales with eight kills and Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) collected 17 assists.

In the second set of the day, the Wildcats faced host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The Eagles looked just as strong as they had last weekend in Denver as they powered their way to a 3-0 victory. ERAU hit .344 throughout the match with 42 kills. ERAU's Lyndsey Weiler had 14 of the Eagle's kills. Keeney had a team high five kills for Johnson & Wales in the loss and Brooke Paxton (Greeley, Colo.) had 11 digs.

The Wildcats will take on Haskell Indian Nations University and University of Antelope Valley on Saturday in Prescott.
