Wildcats come up short against Austin

Johnson & Wales closed out the weekend taking on Austin College.

The 'Roos went out on a 5-2 run to open the first set and began to pull away from Johnson & Wales. Austin extended their lead to 14-10 before pushing it up to 18-11. Johnson & Wales found a few late points but the 'Roos took the 25-17 win. In the second set, the Wildcats began with a bit of back and forth before Austin College pushed their lead up to 15-10. JWU fought back to come within two points but the 'Roos held on for the 25-19 win.

In the third set, Austin opened on a 4-1 run to again start with some early momentum. A kill by Brea Chaney (Commerce City, Colo.) brought JWU back within two points but Austin College pushed their lead back up to 19-13. A five point run by Johnson & Wales cut the deficit to one point. Despite the late run, the 'Roos closed out the set on a 6-2 run to grab the 25-20 win and three set victory.

Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) had eight kills for Johnson & Wales and hit .208 in the contest. Emmy Gazaway (Louisville, Colo.) had 14 assists for JWU and Skylar Raineri (Murrieta, Calif.) had five service aces for Johnson & Wales.

The Wildcats will head to Irving, Texas for a divisional tournament at University of Dallas.
