Volleyball drops SCAC opener to Texas Lutheran

DENVER -- The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team opened SCAC play at home Friday with a 3-0 loss to visiting Texas Lutheran. 

After a tough start to the match, the Wildcats (2-5, 0-1) found a rhythm in the third set but couldn't extend it to a fourth set in the 25-13, 25-15, 25-24 defeat. 

Senior Brooke Paxton led JWU Denver with nine kills and eight digs. Six of Paxton's kills came in a in a back-and-forth third set that featured 17 ties and nine lead changes. The Wildcats held a 19-17 lead in the set and were tied at 24-all but saw their rally fall short after consecutive kills by the Bulldogs. 

Freshman Hope Hines added seven kills, two aces and four digs while senior Ashlee Ruehs and sophomore Jacquelyn Ortiz both had double-digit assists (11 and 12, respectively).
