Wildcats fall to Celts to cap weekend

DENVER -- The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team ended the opening weekend of SCAC play with a 3-0 loss to St. Thomas on Saturday night at the Wildcat Center. 

The Wildcats (2-10, 0-4) were in good position to tie the match at a set apiece, leading 22-15 in the second set but couldn't close it out and fell behind 2-0. JWU didn't have its best set to finish, dropping the match by a count of 25-21, 27-25, 25-18. 

Senior Brooke Paxton led the Wildcats with 10 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Kaitlin Jones was one of three Wildcats with double-digit digs, finishing with 20 while freshman Hope Hines had 14. 

Sophomore Jacquelyn Ortiz totaled 20 assists while senior Ashlee Ruehs had 12 assists, nine kills and two digs.
