'Cats finish eighth at Mountaineer Invitational

Johnson & Wales hit the road early Saturday to travel to Gunnison for Western State Colorado University's Mountaineer Invitational.

The field featured six NCAA Division II programs including perennial powerhouses Adams State and host Western State. Samantha Barela (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the first Wildcat across the finish line in 32nd place at 20:55.05. Jessie Faron (Auburn, Ind.) was close behind in 38th at 21:04. Brandi Williams-Beck (San Antonio, Texas) finished in 73rd place at 29:42.

Kelci Freeman (Ramona, Calif.) finished fourth for JWU at 33:15.20 in 74th place, just edging Ashley Jackson (Denver, Colo.) in 75th at 33:15.25.

Adams State won the team title with a score of 31 points. Johnson & Wales finished in eighth place with a score of 209.

Johnson & Wales will stay close to home in two weeks when they take part in the Metro State Invitational in Washington Park in Denver.
