Johnson & Wales stayed close to home on Saturday, traveling just a few miles from campus to take part in the Metro State Invitational at Wash Park.
The 6K race featured a field of 133 runners and teams from across the west. Samantha Barela (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Wildcats to finish at 24:37 for 29th place. Jessie Faron (Auburn, Ind.) was across the line next for JWU in 46th place at 25:21 followed by Olivia Redmann (Englewood, Fla.) in 56th at 25:45.
Ashley Jackson (Denver, Colo.) and Brandi Williams-Beck (San Antonio, Texas) both came in at 34:22 but Jackson just edged Williams-Beck to finish in 127th and Williams-Beck in 128th. Kelci Freeman (Ramona, Calif.) crossed the finish line at 41:21 in 132nd place.
The Wildcats finished in 9th place among the 11 teams with a score of 207 points. Dallas Baptist University took home the team title with 23 points.
Johnson & Wales will travel to Fort Hays State University next weekend for the Tiger Invitational as their road to the A.I.I. Championships continues.
