JWU takes second at A.I.I. Championships

The Wildcats hosted the 2016 A.I.I. Championships on Saturday at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course in Boulder.

Samantha Barela (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished in ninth place with a time of 19:34 followed by Jessie Faron (Auburn, Ind.) in 11th at 19:53. The 5k course saw Olivia Redmann (Englewood, Fla.) come in 17th at 21:56. Ashley Jackson (Denver, Colo.) crossed the finish line in 31st at 25:13 and Brandi Williams-Beck (San Antonio, Texas) finished in 34th at 25:38.

The 'Cats team score of 94 points put them in second place among the postseason eligible teams, earning Johnson & Wales University's first ever trophy in a women's sport.

Preliminary results show Barela and Faron qualifying for the 36th Annual NAIA Women's Cross Country Championships at North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill. Official qualifiers will be announced by the NAIA on Monday.
